TEGUISE
Located with easy access to the whole Island Teguise was one of the first settlements established in the Canary Islands and was the Capital of Lanzarote until 1847.
A walkabout through Teguise during the week allows the visitor appreciate the peace and quiet of the town home to museums such as the house of the Marques de Herrera y Rojas (Marquis of Herrera y Rojas) and the Casa Perdomo (Perdomo House). Of special cultural interest is the Casa del Timple (House of the Timple)
Then come Sunday mornings, Teguise is transformed into the famous Teguise Market, with a multitude of stalls and craftsmen. Here, in its streets and squares, the most important market of the Canary Islands takes place, where you can get your hands on all sorts of crafts, ceramics, wickerwork, leather goods, etc. as well as natural, typical produce, such as cheeses, wines, fantastic fresh produce and other products. Many artists also sell their very varied works here. It is an event that no visitor should miss.
With its ideal location you are only a very short drive from the Famous Famara Beach and Nazaret with its enchanting LagOmar Musuem.
Famara Beach is sheltered by the famous mountain cliff which has the highest point on the island, Peñas del Chache 670 meters 2200ft. The strong winds in the area make it ideal and extremely popular with people all over the world who like surfing and kite surfing. In the village of Caleta de Famara there is a wide offer for learning these sports. You will see many people walking this magical beach when the tide is low. The setting is truly spectacular.
Just 5 minutes south of Teguise in the Car you will find Nazaret home to famous LagOmar Museum.
One of Lanzarote’s most spectacular private properties, majestically formed around the same rocks from which it was built, a volcanic quarry with natural labyrinths and caves. A truly spectacular work of art created by Nature from the molten lava which once flowed down these same slopes of the ancient volcano above LagOmar. LagOmar has a bar, restaurant and two apartments with a private pool that nestles in the rock garden.
Also in Nazaret you will find an incredible Teleclub. Virtually every village in Lanzarote has a social center called a Teleclub. If you are traveling around the island you can always look out for these social centers as an alternative place to snack or dine. The main reason that you may find them interesting is because they have a great reputation for offering cheap quality traditional dishes. They are good rest stops as you are touring the island. Everybody is welcome to eat or snack. You do not have to be a resident of the village or island, so keep a lookout for these as you are traveling around.
